• A project has been formulated by Bangladesh Post Office for establishing Post e-center at each of the 8500 rural post offices of the country. This project aims at bridging digital divide between the rural and urban people of the country by enabling them to have access to modern ICT based technologies. This project can be considered as an important milestone in achieving the ‘Vision-2021’ of the present government. The project is at the final stage of approval. In several national and international addressing, the Honorable Prime Minister has reiterated the intention of the government to the effect that “each of 8500 rural post offices of the country will be converted into Post E-Center”. This has rendered this project as a national program.
• Electronic Money Transfer Service (EMTS) was inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister on March 26, 2010 A.D. This service was commercially launched in a limited scope (in 104 post offices) on May 01, 2010 A.D. However, in response of overwhelming demand, this service has now been expanded in 1150 post offices throughout the country including all district Head Post Offices and Upazila Post Offices. This service has got wide acceptability and popularity within a short period of time, which can be regarded as a significant achievement of the present government.
• Bangladesh Post Office is now implementing a project named “Process Automaton of Postal Department”. This project primarily aims at automating the activities of 134 offices including 71 Head Post Offices and 13 Main and Sorting Offices through computer hardware and an integrated web based application software. The software is at the final stage of development, which will soon be released on a trial version. After successful piloting in a limited number of post offices by January of 2011, other offices will gradually come under automation.
• Postal Cash Card, which has already been inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister, is now in operation in 31 post offices of Dhaka and Comilla. This service will be gradually expanded in those post offices throughout the country, which have more commercial importance. This card will minimize the risk of carrying cash in one hand and will enable customers to reap the benefit of encashment and remittance in post office counters and ATM booths on the other hand. This card may also act equally as a Debit Card, Credit Card and Plastic Money.
• The Post Office Act,1898 has already been amended and passed as The Post Office (Amendment) Act, 2009. This has enabled the postal department to render new valued added services to the customers through product diversification, which will cater to their ever changing needs and ensure their satisfaction.
• Special SIM Cards having both Voice Call and ERS facilities have been distributed among 8217 Extra Departmental Agents of Bangladesh Post Office. This has enabled those ill paid staffs of the department to increase their income significantly by doing business through those SIM Cards.
• 32 commemorative stamps have been published by Bangladesh Post Office during the last two years on various national / international issues. Among those, the most noteworthy publications are mentioned below:
